Beans are a staple food in many countries. And did you know? They are very cheap. We also love how nutrient-rich they are. If you do not eat beans, you are missing out on a lot of things. Generally, people eat beans with rice, and this combination is delicious. However, you can also directly eat them if you wish to. They are very tasty and can be prepared very quickly with the help of a good pressure cooker. In a pressure cooker, they do not crack or split, which is why their taste is never altered.
The cooking time of beans is also very less in a pressure cooker. Therefore, unlike cooking beans directly in a pot, you will have to spend only a small amount to time if you have a pressure cooker. But you might be wondering how you are going to do all the cooking. Don’t worry, because today we are here to help you. Below we have mentioned a step by step process of cooking beans well. Just go through each step, and you will understand the whole process. Let us begin –
1. Wash and soak your beans in water
You first have to wash the beans thoroughly to remove any contaminants and dust particles from their surface. Usually, two to three washes are enough for doing so. Then, you must soak them in water for at least 8 hours. If you have preplanned the meal, you must stick to soaking them 12 hours. Dried beans are tough to cook even in the pressure cooker, so the soaking process in water will help you a lot. After soaking, the beans will only take a maximum of 40 minutes to get thoroughly cooked.

2. Sauté other ingredients in the cooker
Take a tablespoon of oil and heat it in the cooker. Once the oil is heated, put some finely chopped onions to it and stir them for at least a minute or two. You can also add ginger and garlic to the onions. After you are done adding other thinks continue the cooking until the onions are translucent. In this step, many people also like to add bell peppers; however, if you do not like adding any of the ingredients mentioned above, you can skip this step altogether.

3. Drain the soaked beans and add them to the cooker
Thoroughly drain the water from the beans that you have soaked for at least eight hours and add them to the onion mixture that we mentioned in the previous step. Stir everything for a minute and add some water. We do not have a measurement for water, but we do like to add water to cover all the beans inside the cooker. In this step, many people also like to add some stock. However, if you do not enjoy that, you can avoid that. Mix everything in a low flame and move to the next step.
4. Cover the lid of the pressure cooker and start the cooking process
Now is the time to cover the lid of the pressure cooker well. For that, try twisting and turning the lid and lock it correctly on the pressure cooker vessel. The cooking process will depend on the type of pressure cooker you have. If you own an electric pressure cooker, you can switch it on for 15 minutes, and your beans will be ready. However, if you have a stovetop pressure cooker, you will have to first cook the beans in high flame for 15 minutes and then simmer them for 15 minutes again.

5. Dissipate the Pressure
For the dissipation of steam in an electric cooker, you will have to understand the process of the model that you own. For this, read the manual that you would have got with the cooker. For stovetop pressure cookers, resting them for a good five to ten minutes will do the job. Once all the steam is released from the cooker, slowly open the lid. The beans will be hot, so handle them well and take them out on a bowl or a plate using a spatula. For garnishing, you can use coriander leaves or cilantro. If you like, you can also add some salt for enhancing the flavors.
