Safe and Healthy Cookware: What You Need To Know When Choosing Non-Toxic Pots & Pans

We always want to eat a healthy meal, and for that, you usually concentrate on the healthy vegetables and other ingredients that you use for cooking your meal. Even when you are using fresh farm vegetables or organic vegetables, you will have to chop and cook them in your regular cookware only. Now the important that you need to consider is, “Is your cookware healthy”? Are you confused when we asked whether the cookware is healthy or not? Yes, it even can be healthy or harmful for you. When you are choosing the non-stick pans or pots, they have toxins that will be released into the food or the air when you start cooking in them. So, it is always good if you can choose non-toxic pots and pans for cooking a healthy meal.

There are certain things that you need to know when choosing non-toxic pots and pans. If you are buying them for the first time, then here is what you need to consider

Chemicals used:

Yes, chemicals are used in the making of the cookware, and you need to understand which chemicals are used. When you heat the cookware, the chemicals leach into the air, and when you start cooking, they get mixed up with the food that you are cooking. Before you look at the kind of chemicals, you should also know which one is more harmful and which one releases more chemicals. That way, you can be safe from the chemical coated cookware. Non-stick cookware is the most dangerous option in the market.

What are you going to cook?

The next important thing to keep in mind is your cooking needs. Yes, what do you do more? You fry, sauté, steam, boil or bake? You will have to ask yourself a question of whether you need some non-stick cookware for making food. If it is just for boiling or steaming, then you don’t need non-stick cookware for it. You will need them only for frying and sautéing, and hence you will have to make the right choice. Try to keep them as less as possible in your kitchen. As much as possible, just try to use multi-purpose pans and pots so that you will not have a lot of them in your kitchen.

Durability:

The next important point that you need to know when buying non-toxic cookware is their durability. You cannot just throw away a pan after using it for one or two years. You will always want something that can last for a long time. The maintenance that is required by the cookware will decide its life. If you are looking for strong and long-lasting options, then it is always good to go for stainless steel and cast iron cookware. The non-stick cookware is a bad choice as they will lose their non-stick coating in just a few months if you don’t maintain them well. That means you will not be able to use them anymore.

Know the best material:

If you will be able to get the best non-toxic cookware only when you know which is the right material. If you are looking for the best material, then you need to go with stainless steel. It is one of the best and most healthy options. You can boil and steam vegetables, grains and legumes can be cooked, and even stainless steel pressure cookers are a good choice. But it is not a great choice for frying and sautéing. You can also consider enamel coated cast iron for making a healthy meal. It comes with a porcelain coating, and they are very easy to clean. It has a natural non-stick property, and hence you need not have to use too much oil for cooking. It does not leach any chemicals, and hence it does not affect your health as well. But the coating will be done when you use it regularly, and hence you will have to replace them in a year or two. Titanium and ceramic-coated cookware are also a good choice.

You should always keep in mind that you should avoid using Aluminum, non-stick coated cookware, and copper cookware. They are not at all safe and leach a lot of chemicals into the food and air as well.

If you are fine with some extra maintenance and weight, then you can go with Cast Iron, Carbon steel and glass cookware. Cast iron and carbon steel do not come with the natural non-stick property, and hence you will have to use seasoning, and they come with the separate cleaning process. You will have to follow it to make sure that they last for a long time. Glass cookware is non-stick, and at the same time, no chemicals and they are also safe in the dishwasher. But you need to take some extra care when using them like you will not be able to use them on gas tops. You will need an induction cooktop for it.

Everything comes with a set of pros and cons, and hence you need to make the right choice based on your requirements and your budget.
